That’s a Protea. There is a look of guts and hurt on their faces. It’s a mess they’ve created. In the rain-soaked game against Zimbabwe, they lost a point, but they still had this in hand, so they crumbled under pressure. ICC competitions seem to be their Achilles’ heel. The big wicket was won by Roelof van der Merwe taking that stunning catch of David Miller against his old team.
It’s a big day for the Netherlands today. In 2014, they came close to winning but lost by 6 runs. Today they won by 13 runs. Stephan Myburgh, the team’s captain, said he was confident his team could defend this total and that all the Dutch bowlers bowled well. Because the pitch was two-paced, they didn’t bowl the easy lengths very often, which allowed them to build pressure from the start. The South African team tried to force the pace and perished.
158 for 4 was the score that the Netherlands scored against South Africa’s 145 for 8 (Rossouw 25, Glover 3-9, Klaassen 2-20, de Leede 2-25) by 13 runs. They were feeling like you were sinking! This is yet another instance of the familiar ‘c’ that will reverberate for a while. Despite having everything in their hands, South Africa knocked them out of another World Cup. It was yet another heartbreak for South Africa in Adelaide, perhaps bigger than any they have experienced recently. After scripting one of the most important moments in cricket history, the Netherlands will celebrate long and hard.
For the team, qualifying for the Super 12s was a huge achievement. However, beating a pre-tournament favorite on Sunday could be even more significant because a top-four finish will ensure automatic qualification for the T20 World Cup 2024. There would have also been celebrations in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands. Because Netherlands’ win also meant India qualified for the final four, the match between those two teams later in the afternoon turned into a knockout contest to decide the second semi-finalists from Group 1.
Temba Bavuma:
It’s time for a bowl. The team has gone in with an extra seamer, perhaps early on in the pitch, and we will attempt to take advantage of that. As David [Miller] returns, Keshav comes in for the spinners. We need to win this game to continue building on the good things we have done so far. We have prepared and are ready to execute the plans.
Scott Edwards:
The bat would make us so happy. As we saw from the last two games, it should be a good wicket all day. We have a lot to do as we prepare for the next World Cup. There have been no changes.

Colin Ackermann:
There is nothing better than winning today; we deserve this victory, the boys have put in so much effort over the last six months, so it feels fantastic. It has been a theme that has run through this entire World Cup. In the end, you have to earn the right to hit boundaries. We knew 160 would be a competitive race on a slower track, so being able to perform so well was awesome. It is something I would need to discuss with the skip about (smiles) (he hasn’t bowled much in the tournament before this game). As a result of the fact that the South Africans had a few left-handers, the matchup worked out effectively.

Temba Bavuma:
I am very disappointed. Before this game, we played well. We knew we had to win this game, and again, we stumbled when the pressure was on. They had a hard time swallowing this one. It was our belief and confidence that helped us reach the knockout round. There are a lot of things you can learn when you lose that way. First, I won the toss and bowled first. Giving them 158 runs to start wasn’t ideal. Similar to the Pakistan game, we got stuck with the bat. There were times when we lost wickets at crucial moments. The wicket may have become a bit hard, but they used the dimensions of the ground much better than we did. Our efforts just weren’t enough.
Netherlands Won By 13 Runs
In the T20 World Cup, the Netherlands defeated South Africa by 13 runs, one of their biggest victories ever in cricket. It is the first time the Netherlands has beaten South Africa in any format, and with this result, they have given themselves a great chance to qualify for the next World Cup – the top four teams in both Super 12 groups qualify directly. Seeing the smaller teams succeed on the big stage brings joy to the cricketing fraternity. We’re done with this game. The toss for Bangladesh’s virtual quarterfinal match against Pakistan has just been won. This one is spicy, so let’s hope the next one is too. I’ll see you soon!
