I think Ben Stokes, who scores fifty so many times for us, should receive this award (PoTM). This is an extraordinary occasion that we will enjoy. My bowling strategy was to try to get them to hit the square of the wicket by bowling into the wicket and making them hit the court of the wicket, so I knew it would work. We felt that the wicket was not as good as we had anticipated. There was always something nipping around everywhere, making it challenging to chase after it. The slow balls I throw into the wicket are intended to keep the batters on the edge of their seats. Our team has won a World Championship, what a great feeling. Stokes is one of the most extraordinary players in the world. As someone I look up to, he always shows up when the team needs him; there is no doubt I should respect him. Honestly, I am at a loss for words as it has been a great tournament, and I am unsure where to begin. I’ve won the World Cup for the first time in my life. It was a fantastic crowd. I am being adaptable before the tournament was important to me. I aim to improve my bowling at the death, as I haven’t done that much before. In this line-up, it is hard to get to bat, so I want to improve my batting. Being a World Champion is such an honor (smiles)!

It’s especially important in finals when you’re chasing. We won the game because Adil Rashid and Sam Curran bowled well. It was a tricky wicket, which was difficult to feel in, so to limit them to 130-odd bowlers is quite impressive. It was obvious that we had to address the defeat (to Ireland) early in the competition, say what needed to be said, and then let it go. The best teams learn from their mistakes and don’t let it affect them in tournaments like these. That was a little blip along the way, credit to Ireland for showing up and beating us. It was a pretty good evening. You never know what’s going to happen in a World Cup, but so far it’s been very good.

England Won By 5 Wickets

This is especially true when you chase the goal in a final game. Our victory was due to the bowling of Adil Rashid and Sam Curran. Limiting them to 130-odd bowlers on such a tricky wicket, which was challenging to feel in, is quite impressive, mainly because it was a tough wicket. The fact that the defeat (to Ireland) had to be addressed so early in the competition made it evident that we had to address it. We had to say what needed to be said, and then we had to let it go. Teams at such tournaments need to learn from their mistakes and not let them affect their performance. I respect Ireland for showing up and beating us despite a little blip along the way. All had good times. The World Cup is unpredictable, but it has been perfect so far.

As both teams recovered from early jitters, they both made excellent comebacks. Having won a scratchy match against Afghanistan, England suffered a shock loss to neighbors Ireland, followed by a dampening of their marquee match at MCG against hosts Australia. On a Net Run Rate basis, they beat the Australians and Black Caps in the knockouts after winning their remaining games against New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

It has been a fantastic journey for Pakistan to reach the final. They were on the verge of elimination following back-to-back losses against India and Zimbabwe in their first two matches, both going down to the wire. It wasn’t until their third outing against the Netherlands that they gained any points. With a clinical performance against South Africa in a rain-affected match in Sydney, Pakistan started believing they could qualify for the knockout rounds. Still, they needed other results to go their way as well. Having stunned the Proteas, the Netherlands seized the opportunity and beat Bangladesh to seal their place in the last four.
