There was a thrilling 51-run stand between Bangladesh batsmen Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman as India choked in the last half hour of the first ODI against Bangladesh, resulting in a one-wicket loss to Bangladesh in a low-scoring opening ODI on Sunday. In the 40th over, Bangladesh was reduced to 136 for nine by India’s bowlers, who managed to produce another poor batting performance.
Despite this, Rahul dropped an aerial sitter when Bangladesh still needed 32 runs while he was kept in with another veteran, Shikhar Dhawan. In precisely 46 overs, Washington Sundar and Mustafizur got the team to the finish line as Miraz (38 off 39 balls), and Mustafizur (10 not out) held the team together.
Bangladesh’s highest 10th wicket partnership in an ODI has been 51 runs between Miraz and Mustafizur, the top 10th wicket partnership in an ODI. Except for Rahul (73 off 70 balls), the Indian top-order flopped badly on a track that assisted both seamers and spinners. At the break, the total looked eminently attainable, but Mohammed Siraj (3 for 32), Shardul Thakur (1 for 21), and Washington Sundar (2 for 17) turned it into something substantial.
The pace of debutant Kuldeep Sen (two for 37) hit him for three sixes, two of which came during the slog overs, while Deepak Chahar looked pedestrian as the game progressed. When the game went on, there was no bounce in the ball. Miraz kept the hosts from suffering a setback, even though their bowling effort should have been enough to win the game. There was only one other player who could make a difference in the match: Rahul, who struck 73 off 70 balls in a day when the other players had trouble getting going. There were five fours and four sixes hit by Rahul in the innings.
With five wickets for 36 due to Shakib Al Hasan’s five overs, India lasted 41.2 overs. As the visitors selected to box, Mustafizur Rahman opened the proceedings with a maiden, followed by India skipper Rohit Sharma declaring Hasan Mahmud leg before wicket when he smashed him through the gap between point and cover.
Dhawan sent his first boundary over cover after going down the ground. With Miraz coming to the attack in the fourth over, Bangladesh skipper Litton Das made an early change to his bowling. Dhawan was castrated for seven after he started well. A bounced ball touched the opener’s wrist before hitting the stumps as he attempted the reverse sweep. When Mahmud drifted the ball on his pads, Rohit hit his first six of the series. India’s skipper struck against Miraz with a sweep shot, this time finding the deep square-leg region for a boundary.
Liton Das:
We will bowl first. We will bowl first since it looks sticky for the first ten overs: two spinners and three seamers for us. Playing good cricket means following the process.
Rohit Sharma:
Honestly, I wasn’t sure. Our team would have also bowled if the pitch had some moisture. We were left with four all-rounders due to injuries and a few issues. Deepak Chahar, Washington, Shardul, Shabaz. The debut of Kuldeep Sen is taking place. I am batting up the order with Shikhar and Virat. The wicketkeeper will be KL Rahul. New Zealand was a rare country for us to play many games, but we fought well. The batting was excellent by some of the guys. Let’s not focus too much on the World Cup yet. Keeping our focus on what we have will help us play more effectively.

The man of the match went to Mehidy Hasan Miraz:
My heart is full of joy and excitement. I knew I only had to bat about 20 balls to get started, so I focused on one area and believed in my strategy. The ball was bowled wicket-to-wicket. My performance was memorable.
Bangladesh Won By 1 Wicket
Mehidy Hasan Miraz has demonstrated the importance of bowlers who can contribute with the bat. Although he has opened in T20s and made some cameos in the middle order, he has not played much in the middle order in the past. The only benefit is that it adds cushion to the XI and allows some flexing with the ball and bat. We had a great time on Sunday. India was stunned by Bangladesh here. There will be another match between these two sides on Wednesday. I look forward to seeing you all soon!
The day was great for Bangladesh. This series is off to a great start for them. Was KL Rahul responsible for dropping that catch? Did India lose the game because they couldn’t break the last wicket stand? With just 186 on the board, you can’t expect to win on a 250-pitch. The bowlers did a great job making the target big enough, however.
It turned out to be a good game. India struggled to start with some tackiness. Shakib took five wickets in a stunning performance. A fighting total of 132 was posted by KL Rahul with a grind of 73. In order to put Bangladesh under pressure, India utilized both pacers and spinners on the pitch. In the wake of the collapse, Washi got a set of Litton Das and Bangladesh lost seven wickets for 62 runs. The passionate home crowd was stunned as India cruised home, but Mehidy lifted their spirits shot by shot. A bit of dew helped too, but it showed just how determined a batter can be on this pitch. Fizz’s glueing at the end is an important contribution over slogging and letting his partner down.
